Real Friends

Join me in the Five Minute Friday Challenge hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker. Participants write for 5 minutes with no editing, no over thinking, and no backtracking. This week’s word is: Friend.

(Go)

Moving towns multiple times leaves friends behind like taking a beautiful handful of fresh picked daisies. The roots are still in the ground. They stay behind. The new folk are lovely, kind and welcoming. But they haven’t left their beginnings somewhere else. They are still attached. They don’t need us in quite the same way we need them.

Or maybe if we had more time and energy we’d get to know them better? Maybe if we could keep up with them it would help?

This different kind of friendship thing is blessing that goes deep. An answer to a lonely heart’s desire. A God who sees. And hears. And knows.

We chat and laugh. Sometimes we cry. We share our hearts. We are real with one another. Raw even. We pray. We rejoice. We encourage.

We may never get to embrace this side of heaven. We have never met. And though I long to behold them in the flesh, to sip tea without a monitor in between - these friendships are just as real and precious as any.

(Stop)

Now, your turn…

  2. Great stuff. May the relationships we build, and conversations we share continue to bring redemption to a "place" (virtual) that also has so many weeds growing. May the wheat shine...

  4. I relate to it all- and loved the first paragraph. That is how I felt when moving all of those times. It seems that when you are the one that leaves, many of the people from back wherever you lived don't remember you in quite the same way you remember them (except for those true blue friends). It's hard being the mover and you said it so well when you said how we need them differently than they need us. Amen to the last part too. I cherish our friendship so, I too just wish we could have tea in real life. You are an amazing friend that God provided in a unexpected way just like with many of the other chance happenings I have experienced. I hope someday we do actually get to meet "this side of heaven". If not though, I am not going anywhere. I plan on sticking around til I am too old to use the computer anymore LOL. Cheers to true blue friends!

  5. "They haven't left their beginnings somewhere else"- You spoke all the words of my heart! I have left my beginnings over and over and over again. How do I still have energy to grow? Because of Him, always Him. Great post!
